𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮: 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗱𝗶𝘁𝘆
𝗜𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝘂𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Protection lasts for 10 years starting from the date of registration.
𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝘃𝗮𝗶𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆: The term can be extended for an additional 5 years.
𝗠𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗺 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗺: The total protection period is 15 years; no further extensions are granted after this period.
𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: To claim the extension, you must file a renewal application in the prescribed form with the required fees before the initial 10-year term expires.
𝗚𝗿𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗱: A limited grace period is available for filing late renewal applications if the deadline is missed.
𝗠𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: There are no annual maintenance fees. You only pay a one-time fee for the extension.
𝗣𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻: After the 15-year maximum term, the design enters the public domain and can be used by anyone.
𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗼𝗻: The protection term is shorter than trademarks renewable indefinitely) or copyright (60+ years), but is generally considered sufficient for the commercial lifecycle of a design.
