𝗡𝗼, 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.


𝗔𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Copyright exists automatically the moment a work is created in a tangible form; no formal process is required to obtain the right.


𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Courts (including the Bombay High Court) have consistently ruled that registration is optional and entirely at the owner's discretion.


𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲: This aligns with the 𝗕𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, which India follows, upholding the principle of automatic protection.


𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 & 𝗘𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁


𝗕𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: Even without registering, the owner enjoys all copyright benefits, including the right to prevent unauthorized use.


𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: You can file infringement suits without a registration certificate.


𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀: While not required, registering provides specific legal leverage:



 • It serves as prima facie evidence of ownership in court.


 • It allows for easier enforcement.


 • It establishes eligibility for statutory damages.



𝗥𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: While optional, registration is highly advisable for commercial works to establish clear ownership and facilitate smoother legal enforcement if a dispute arises.
